Putin's Envoy to visit Washington for talks with Trump administration - Reuters

Kirill Dmitriev, Chief of Russia's sovereign wealth fund will visit Washington this week. There, he will meet with a representative of US President Donald Trump, Reuters reports.
A source familiar with the plan told the Western news agency about this visit of a Kremlin representative to the US capital.
This will be the first visit to the US by a high-ranking Russian official since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
A Reuters source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Dmitriev, who was appointed last month as Russia's special investment and international economic envoy, will meet with US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Earlier, CNN reported on their meeting, particularly mentioning that Dmitriev and Witkoff would hold talks on strengthening relations between the two countries amid the White House's efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Dmitriev himself expressed the opinion on his account on X (formerly Twitter) that "the resistance to US-Russia dialogue is real - driven by entrenched interests and old narratives" and suggested that "the improved relations are exactly what the world needs for lasting global security and peace."
As Reuters notes, Dmitriev's visit to the US is expected following recent phone conversations between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, particularly at a time when the American leader is seeking to meet with the Kremlin head "as soon as possible."
Sanctioned official participates in talks in Riyadh
Dmitriev has been under sanctions from several Western countries since February 2022. The United States is among those that have imposed restrictive measures against him.
In addition, in February 2025, Dmitriev was appointed as the Russian dictator's special investment and international economic envoy.
Dmitriev was included in the Russian delegation for talks with the US in Riyadh on February 18, 2025. On the American side, the participants included US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and US President's Special Envoy for Middle East Steve Witkoff.
Earlier, Dmitriev claimed that the two countries had allegedly already begun discussions on projects in Russia, such as a joint rare earth metals agreement.
At the end of March, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is ready to continue contacts with the US, despite Donald Trump's anger over statements made by Russian dictator Putin.
Recently, Trump told journalists that he was "angry" and "pissed off" with Russian President Vladimir Putin over statements about Zelenskyy's alleged illegitimacy and the ceasefire in Ukraine.
In addition, according to Western media, the White House is preparing new pressure mechanisms against Russia due to the prolonged peace negotiations on Ukraine.
Moreover, the US senators have supported tougher sanctions against Russia, including a 500% tariff on goods from countries that purchase Russian oil and gas.
