The massive attack on Ukraine on Wednesday, May 13, was not accidental. In this way, the Russian leader is trying to shift attention from US President Donald Trump’s visit to China, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"It certainly cannot be called a coincidence that one of the longest massive Russian attacks against Ukraine takes place precisely at the time when the President of the United States arrived for a visit to China – a visit from which much is expected," the President said in his post.
Zelenskyy said that "in this difficult geopolitical moment," Russia is trying to spoil the overall political atmosphere and "draw attention to its evil" at the expense of Ukrainian lives and Ukraine’s infrastructure.
"Throughout the entire day today, the Russians have been launching waves of Shaheds against our regions – and, in particular, deliberately targeting regions closest to the borders of NATO countries," the head of state emphasized.
Zelenskyy noted that at least 800 Russian drones had already been recorded since the start of the day, and the attack was still ongoing. Hits were reported in many regions.
"As of now, dozens of people are reported injured, including children. Sadly, six people have been killed," he said.
The current attack is structurally complex and involves several consecutive waves using not only drones, but also missiles. The tactic is aimed at exhausting Ukraine’s air defenses and inflicting maximum damage on vital infrastructure.
