Pope Leo XIV has instructed priests not to use artificial intelligence when preparing sermon texts for the faithful, according to Vatican News.

In particular, the Pope called on priests to enter into real life and to resist the temptation to prepare homilies using artificial intelligence, emphasizing that AI and the internet must be used with caution.

“Like all the muscles in the body, if we do not use them, if we do not move them, they die. The brain needs to be used, so our intelligence must also be exercised a little so as not to lose this capacity,” he said.

At the same time, the Pope reminded that preachers share the faith when delivering their homilies. In his view, AI cannot share faith with people.

“If we can offer a service that is inculturated in the place, in the parish where we are working, people want to see your faith, your experience of having known and loved Jesus Christ,” he added.

Meanwhile, while the Vatican warns against the temptations of AI, in the US, there are efforts to put it at the service of the military. According to media reports, the Pentagon is demanding that developers develop AI systems without moral constraints to avoid losing the technological race.

At the same time, the confrontation between world leaders is intensifying — the US and China are engaged in a fierce technological war for dominance in neural network development. Both countries have refused to sign an international declaration on the responsible use of AI in the military sphere.
