Poland does not understand the United States' position on prohibiting Ukraine from using Western weapons to strike deep into Russian territory. The Ukrainian Armed Forces should be granted permission for long-range strikes, stated Poland's Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.

Sikorski noted that while there are restrictions in armed conflict defined by international humanitarian law, Russia systematically ignores them.

The Polish Minister said that he was in Lviv, and a Russian missile killed an entire family there. The father watched as the bodies of his wife and three daughters were pulled out of the rubble.

He added that Russia is systematically destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure, having already damaged about 70% of its facilities.

“The missile… was launched from a Russian bomber flying over Russian territory from a Russian airfield. Give me one reason why Ukraine should not be able to take out that airfield. A victim of aggression has the right to defend itself also on the territory of the aggressor," emphasized Sikorski.

The Polish Foreign Minister also reminded that since August, Ukrainian forces have already been operating in Russia's Kursk region, implying that this should alleviate Western allies' concerns about the Kremlin's reaction to crossing "red lines".

Strikes deep into Russia

Recently, Ukraine's allies have been discussing the possibility of lifting restrictions on the use of long-range weapons provided to Ukrainian forces for strikes on Russian territory.

The US maintains a ban on such actions, and the official position of the UK has not changed for now.

Although The Guardian reported that the US and UK have allegedly made such a decision, it has not been publicly announced yet. There are currently no official confirmations of this information.

The Washington Post reported that the US has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of Ukraine using long-range missiles to strike Russian territory. According to representatives from the White House and the Pentagon, Ukrainian leaders have not provided sufficient arguments in favor of such a strategy.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is confident that allies will permit strikes deep into Russia, but this requires a decision from the US. He plans to discuss this topic during his meeting with American leader Joe Biden this week.
