Poland identifies missile type crossing border during Russian attack on Ukraine
The airspace of Poland on the morning of Sunday, March 24, was likely violated by the Russian cruise missile Kh-101. It was in the country's territory for 39 seconds, reports the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the country, Wiesław Kukuła.
He also responded to journalists' questions about whether it was a provocation or coincidence, stating that every scenario is possible. He noted that Russian missiles are not very accurate and could deviate from their course.
He was also asked why Poland did not shoot down the missile.
"Such targets on the border of two countries are difficult in terms of the dilemma of whether to shoot down or not. Because the consequences of destruction from our side can cause unintended effects on the other side. And the same could happen when Ukraine shoots such a missile. Such a missile could fall on the territory of Poland and cause certain consequences," he replied.
Background
On March 24, Russian occupiers once again launched a massive missile strike on Ukraine. The enemy used 29 missiles launched from 14 Tu-95MS aircraft and 28 drones.
One of the missiles flew into the airspace of Poland. It flew over the Lublin Voivodeship. The country did not attempt to shoot down the missile, allegedly believing that it would return to Ukrainian territory.
After this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland summoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreyev to the carpet.
At the same time, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, noted that such actions by Russia cannot be tolerated, and the missile should have been shot down.
