The Cabinet of Ministers may reduce the number of administrative staff amid the merger of ministries, states Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during a conversation with journalists.

Svyrydenko was asked to comment on the possibility of reducing the Cabinet’s administrative staff (decreasing the number of employees working in the Cabinet Secretariat).

"Where we have ministry mergers, I think, of course, this is obvious. The main thing is that the government does not lose functionality," the Prime Minister said.

She clarified that it is currently important to maintain a number of people sufficient to ensure the performance of each function.

"But where ministries are merged, of course, we expect that after conducting an audit, there may be some reductions," Svyrydenko added.

Ministry mergers

This week, the Cabinet of Ministers underwent major reshuffles. In particular, some ministries were merged.

According to the changes, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal is now also responsible for strategic industries.

Meanwhile, Oleksii Soboliev was appointed head of the ministry formed by merging the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, and the Ministry of Environment.

At the same time, the Ministry of Unity, which was headed by Oleksii Chernyshov, was abolished.
