US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said that the coming days of the war with Iran will be decisive. According to him, Tehran understands this but has little military capability to change the situation, The Guardian reports.

According to the Pentagon chief, the United States is gaining more and more options for action, while Iran, on the contrary, is running out of them.

"The upcoming days will be decisive. Iran knows that, and there’s almost nothing they can militarily do about it," Hegseth said.

He also stressed that in just the past month, Washington has been able to impose its own terms on how the situation unfolds.

"We have more and more options, and they have less... in only one month we set the terms, the upcoming days will be decisive," the Pentagon chief added.

What preceded this

Recent statements by Donald Trump on Iran have been contradictory. At first, he said that indirect talks with Tehran are going well and that a deal could be reached very quickly, but shortly afterward, he returned to issuing harsh ultimatums.

Trump said that if Iran does not agree to a deal and does not open the Strait of Hormuz, the United States will blow up and completely destroy all power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island. At the same time, he has already suggested that a deal with Tehran may not happen.

Later, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that Washington still adheres to the previously announced timeline for the operation — 4–6 weeks, of which 30 days have already passed.

Even later, according to media reports, Trump signaled to his aides that he is ready to end the war even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed.
