US President Donald Trump has threatened to blow up and destroy all power plants, oil wells, and the island of Kharg if Iran does not agree to a deal.
According to the US President, the United States is currently negotiating with a new and more reasonable regime in Iran regarding the cessation of military operations.
He also claims that significant progress has been made in this process.
"But, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately "Open for Business," we will conclude our lovely "stay" in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet "touched", Trump states.
He also emphasizes that such actions could be a response to Iran’s long-standing policy.
"This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime's 47 year "Reign of Terror", the US President adds.
Kharg: The heart of Iran’s oil exports
Kharg Island is located about 25 kilometers off the Iranian coast and accounts for about 90% of the country’s oil exports.
Thanks to its deep-water harbor, large tankers can dock there. Thousands of people live on the island, mostly oil workers.
Trump’s previous ultimatum
On March 22, the US President issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding that it fully open the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to shipping.
If this does not happen, the United States will destroy all power plants, Trump threatened at the time.
However, on March 23, the US President postponed potential strikes against Iran for at least five days following talks that Washington described as good and productive.
According to media reports, Trump abandoned plans to strike Iran’s energy sector and began negotiations after allies warned of the risk of disaster.
