Pentagon chief says US weapons freeze for Ukraine is 'pause'

The freeze on US weapons supplies to Ukraine is a "pause" initiated by US President Donald Trump, Sky News reports.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made a statement after a meeting with his British counterpart, John Healey.
Responding to a journalist’s question about Trump's decision to halt military aid to Ukraine, Hegseth stated that it is a temporary "pause."
"As the President has pointed out, it is a pause. Exactly what he said from the beginning. Pause - pending a true commitment to a path to peace," he said.
He added that Trump is "paying a very keen eye" to what Kyiv is "saying and doing about committing to that peace process".
"And we're very encouraged by the signs we're seeing," he concluded.
US-Ukraine meeting
Last Friday, February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington. During negotiations with US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance at the White House, a dispute arose over the war and Ukraine’s ingratitude.
Following the confrontation, Zelenskyy left the White House early. Trump, in turn, accused the Ukrainian President of not being ready for peace. As a result, the minerals deal between the US and Ukraine was not signed.
Instead, the White House blamed Zelenskyy for escalating tensions, while Western media reported that Trump allegedly wanted the Ukrainian President to fix the situation.
Additionally, on March 5, media outlets reported that the US had halted intelligence-sharing with Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory.
The director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) later confirmed that Washington had suspended not only intelligence-sharing but also the supply of weapons.
Notably, today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the teams from Ukraine and the United States had resumed their work.
