Peace negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine will not conclude anytime soon. The West and Ukraine need to maintain unity, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Twitter (X).
According to Tusk, after overnight talks with European leaders, it became clear that Western countries and Ukraine would lose the confrontation if Russia manages to divide them and dictate the terms of peace.
"The statement about US participation in security guarantees is a success. But the negotiations are still far from over," the prime minister noted.
Zelenskyy–Trump meeting
Yesterday, December 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US President Donald Trump in Florida. They discussed the conditions for establishing peace between Ukraine and Russia.
Following the meeting, Zelenskyy and Trump held a conversation with European leaders.
After the talks, Zelenskyy stated that the peace plan is already 90% agreed upon. At the same time, security guarantees from the US have been fully agreed upon.
According to the president, the peace plan should be put to a referendum so that the Ukrainian people can make the final decision on this issue.
The most difficult issues to agree on remain territorial matters and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Russia is demanding that Ukraine completely withdraw its troops from the Donetsk region, but Zelenskyy has repeatedly emphasized that he will not give away territory.
Meanwhile, Washington has proposed a compromise — the creation of a free economic zone in the region.
Details of the Zelenskyy–Trump meeting are available in an RBC-Ukraine report.
