Over the past six months, the number of Russian troops in Ukraine has remained at approximately the same level — between 711,000 and 712,000 personnel, including the operational reserve, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi told journalists.

According to him, Russian forces have fully met and even exceeded their plans for staffing their forces.

"This indicates that the level of their losses exceeds their ability to replenish. On average, the enemy loses about 1,000–1,100 servicemen every day," the general said.

Over the entire period of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Russia has lost 1.2 million soldiers. This exceeds losses in any war since World War II.

This figure includes those killed, wounded, and missing. At the same time, the number of Russian forces killed since February 2022 alone stands at 325,000.

Ukrainian special forces recently carried out a series of successful attacks on Russian airfields. As a result, 15 aircraft were destroyed or damaged, causing the aggressor country losses exceeding $1 billion and weakening strikes against Ukraine.

In January, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that in December 2025, the aggressor country was losing 1,000 soldiers per day in fighting against Ukraine. He emphasized that this figure refers specifically to Russian soldiers killed.

In addition, on December 31, Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that the Ukrainian army neutralized hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers in 2025. He called the Armed Forces of Ukraine "one of the strongest and most experienced armies in the world" and added that 420,000 neutralized Russian troops over the past year are clear proof of this.
