Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that, from Hungary's perspective, the US sanctions on Russian oil companies were a mistake, La Reppubblica reports.

Hungarian Prime Minister said he will soon visit Washington to discuss the issue of sanctions on Russian oil with US President Donald Trump.

"We are thinking about how to build a sustainable system for my country's economy, because Hungary is heavily dependent on Russian oil and gas," he said.

Orbán noted that as a result, energy prices in his country "will skyrocket," causing supply shortages.

When asked whether Trump went too far and made a mistake, Orbán replied affirmatively and added that he will try to "find a solution, especially for Hungary."

US sanctions on Russia

Recently, US President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on key Russian oil companies in an effort to pressure Moscow into agreeing to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

After the sanctions were announced, Brent crude oil futures rose by 5%.

The sanctions against energy giants Rosneft and Lukoil caused concern in China's oil industry.

Beijing stated that such restrictions have no basis in international law and were not approved by the UN Security Council.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin claims that the new US sanctions will not significantly affect the economic condition of Russia.

Meanwhile, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev called Trump "an enemy of Russia" and described the decision as an act of war.

US President Donald Trump said that in six months, it will be possible to see whether the US sanctions have an impact on Russia.
