An oil tanker collided with a cargo ship in the North Sea off the northeastern coast of the United Kingdom, causing a massive fire, Sky News reports.

According to the UK Coastguard, a helicopter, rescue boats from nearby towns, and firefighting vessels have already been dispatched to the scene.

"A coastguard rescue helicopter from Humberside was called, alongside lifeboats from Skegness, Bridlington, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes, an HM Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft, and nearby vessels with firefighting capability. The incident remains ongoing," the statement said.

According to preliminary reports, the tanker Stena Immaculate, flying the US flag, collided with the container ship Solong, flying the flag of Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal.

It is known that Solong departed from the Scottish port of Grangemouth on Sunday evening and was en route to Rotterdam. Meanwhile, Stena Immaculate was anchored off the coast near the city of Hull after departing from the Greek port of Agioi Theodoroi last month.

Earlier, we reported that two explosions occurred in northern Italy on the night of February 15, damaging the oil tanker SeaJewel. The vessel is currently anchored off the coast of Savona.
