Obama to publicly endorse Harris for upcoming election, NBC reports
Former US President Barack Obama will soon announce his support for Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the presidential election, NBC reports.
Four informed people told the news agency that Obama has been in close contact with Harris since she announced her desire to run. According to these people, Obama has privately fully endorsed Harris' candidacy and plans to publicly support her soon.
“He has been in regular contact with her and thinks she's been off to a great start,” says one of the sources.
The former president remains one of the few high-ranking Democrats who have not yet publicly endorsed Harris. NBC sources say that Obama does not want his statements to overshadow President Joe Biden's moment, particularly his recent address to the nation.
Obama's aides and Harris discussed the possibility of organizing their joint participation in the campaign, although no date has been chosen.
According to the sources, the former president offered Harris advice on campaign organization and other aspects of a successful bid for the White House.
Harris replaces Biden in race
This weekend, US President Joe Biden officially announced that he would not run for president. The election will be held in November 2024.
Biden was replaced in the race by Vice President Kamala Harris. She has not yet been officially elected as the Democratic candidate. This is expected to happen before the Democratic Party convention.
The Republican Party will be represented by former President Donald Trump. He has already stated that he is ready to hold a debate with Harris.
