Democrats to nominate presidential candidate before party convention
The US Democratic Party may endorse Kamala Harris for president before the party's convention. The vote will be held online, Voice of America reports.
The Democratic Party Convention Rules Committee approved a proposal that would allow delegates from across the country to vote online for potential presidential candidates instead of President Joe Biden.
Kamala Harris remains the only Democratic candidate who has publicly announced that she wants to run for president. Democrats can apply until the end of July. If there are several candidates, there will be several rounds of voting. But if Harris is the only candidate, voting will begin on August 1.
Harris' candidacy can be approved by August 7. That is, it will happen before the Democratic National Convention, which will be held from August 19 to 22 in Chicago, where the party will officially nominate its candidate for the presidential election.
It also remains unknown when Kamala Harris might be chosen as her running mate.
Background

Joe Biden will remain President of the United States until the end of his term.
The US Republican Party has nominated former President Donald Trump as its candidate for the election. J.D. Vance became his running mate.
