Not going to Ramstein? Biden postpones his trip to Germany due to hurricane
US President Joe Biden has postponed his trip to Germany. This is related to Hurricane Milton, which is expected to strike Florida soon, according to the White House.
"Given the projected trajectory and strength of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing his upcoming trip to Germany and Angola," the statement said.
He will remain in the US to oversee preparations for Hurricane Milton and will also assess the impact of Hurricane Helene in the southeastern part of the country.
Biden's visit to Ramstein
On Thursday, October 10, President Joe Biden was scheduled to travel to Germany, where he would meet with leaders of allied countries and participate in the next meeting in the Ramstein format. The Ramstein meeting was planned for October 12, and he was set to lead this session.
It is now likely that Biden will not be present in Germany due to the hurricane.
Ramstein format
The Ramstein format is a series of international meetings of defense ministers aimed at coordinating military assistance to Ukraine against Russian aggression. Named after the airbase in Germany where the first meeting took place in April 2022, it includes dozens of countries, including NATO members and neutral states. Some countries provide military assistance, while others support humanitarian or political efforts.
Typically, defense ministers from partner countries participate in these meetings. However, in September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally attended the forum.
