In recent months, Norway has transferred military equipment worth about NOK 1 billion (almost EUR 850 million) belonging to the country's Armed Forces to Ukraine, according to the Norwegian government.

The aid includes artillery shells, anti-tank weapons, deminers, and support for tank maintenance. The donations include 5,000 M72 anti-tank missiles and artillery shells used in the M109 howitzer. The donations also include spare parts.

In addition, Norway has allocated up to NOK 1.6 billion (EUR 1.36 billion) for the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine.

Norway also donated three deminers on the Leopard 1 tank chassis to Ukraine and allocated NOK 150 million (EUR 12.7 million) for the maintenance of Leopard tanks.

Norway's assistance to Ukraine

Norway continues to actively support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced Oslo's readiness to allocate billions of kroner to strengthen Ukraine's air defense.

The five-year Nansen Programme provides for military and civilian assistance worth NOK 75 billion (EUR 6.5 billion). This demonstrates Norway's significant and long-term support for Ukraine.

This is not Norway's first aid to Ukraine. Earlier, the government authorized direct sales of weapons and defense products from the Norwegian defense industry to the Ukrainian military.

In addition, in October 2023, Norway allocated $18.5 million for demining in Ukraine. This assistance is crucial for the restoration of peaceful life in the regions liberated from the Russian troops.

Negotiations are currently underway between Kyiv and Oslo to conclude a bilateral security agreement. This document could be another step towards strengthening cooperation between the two countries and ensuring Ukraine's security in the future.
