Norway will fund a new military aid package for Ukraine worth 3.2 billion kroner ($315 million). It will include weapons and ammunition for F-16 fighter jets, as well as air defense missiles, stated Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, NRK reports.
At a press conference on Wednesday, December 17, he said that Norway will allocate 3.2 billion kroner for a package of American weapons for Ukraine. This package will include armaments and ammunition for F-16 fighters, as well as air defense missiles.
"We are purchasing part of this equipment from the US under the established program to support Ukraine," Støre said.
He also stressed that Ukraine is experiencing decisive days. According to the Norwegian Prime Minister, the country "is effectively facing a triple crisis: a security crisis, a domestic political crisis, and an economic crisis."
Aid to Ukraine
Norway will also provide an additional €500 million to purchase American weapons for Ukraine through the PURL program, joined by Germany, the Netherlands, and Canada.
Notably, on December 3, Ukraine asked European allies for an additional €1 billion in armaments by the end of the year. This is critical amid intensified Russian airstrikes and growing pressure on the front lines.
Additionally, the UK announced a large military aid package for Ukraine focused on air defense worth nearly €685 million. It will include air defense systems, missiles, and automated turrets for shooting down drones.
EU countries are increasingly sending weapons to Ukraine directly from manufacturers rather than from their own military stockpiles. In terms of the amount of new equipment delivered, Europe has already surpassed the United States.
