Nordic Foreign Ministers name key conditions for ceasefire in Ukraine

The foreign ministers of the Nordic countries called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. They named two conditions on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
During the meeting of ministers at the NATO summit in The Hague on June 25, the heads of the foreign affairs departments of the Nordic countries issued a joint statement calling for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine.”
They emphasized that this is a necessary condition for the start of negotiations on a “just and lasting peace.”
The ministers stressed that achieving this is possible only under two key conditions. First, five Scandinavian countries have already pledged to allocate over 15 billion dollars in military support to Ukraine in 2025, and are ready for further commitments.
Second, the countries emphasized the need to increase pressure on the Russian war economy. Among the proposed steps are a large-scale sanctions package and the introduction of tariffs against the Russian Federation.
The statement was joined by the foreign ministers of 5 countries: Finland (Elina Valtonen), Denmark (Lars Løkke Rasmussen), Iceland (Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir), Norway (Espen Barth Eide), and Sweden (Maria Malmer Stenergard).
