He made this assessment after receiving a report from the Ukrainian negotiating team that had returned from the US.
"Unfortunately, there is no real movement so far — Russia does not want movement toward peace," the president stressed.
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine, together with its partners, must continue diplomatic efforts to push Russia toward real negotiations.
"It is important that we in Ukraine, the US, Europeans, and other global actors do everything possible and necessary to make the Russians interested in diplomacy," the Ukrainian leader said.
According to him, the Kremlin may use the negotiation process to buy time and gain additional resources.
"Peace must be reliable — that is our goal, and it will be achieved. And we will respond to attacks. Definitely," Zelenskyy concluded.
Talks in the US
The talks between Ukraine and the US were held in Florida over the weekend, on March 21 and 22.
Following the first day, US special envoy Steve Witkoff said the sides were gradually narrowing the list of disputed issues for a future peace agreement and focusing on security and stability matters.
Earlier, Zelenskyy had stressed that these talks should demonstrate Russia’s real readiness to end the war.
During the second round, the sides discussed developing a reliable security system and humanitarian issues.
