Abu Dhabi talks
The Ukraine-US-Russia talks kicked off in Abu Dhabi on January 23, with Ukraine's delegation led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the main focus of the meetings would be territorial issues, particularly in Donbas. Ahead of the talks, the Kremlin stressed that it views the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas as a key condition.
Zelenskyy consulted with Ukraine's negotiation team before the talks. After the first day, Umerov shared some details, while Reuters reported that discussions focused primarily on territorial matters, but no compromise was reached.
On January 24, the Ukrainian leader said the delegations discussed a wide range of topics and called the talks constructive. Media reports also noted that on the same day, direct bilateral meetings between Ukraine and Russia took place alongside the trilateral sessions.
