In recent weeks, Russian forces have intensified attacks on various regions of Ukraine. In particular, they have changed their tactics for employing Shahed-type strike drones, according to a statement by Yurii Ihnat, head of the communications directorate of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, made during the national telethon live broadcast.

"In recent weeks, Russia has intensified attacks on various regions and slightly changed its tactics for using Shahed drones. We've also mentioned this repeatedly on air," Ihnat said.

He noted that during the massive attack carried out by the enemy on the night of June 6, "unfortunately, there were hits and destruction."

However, Ihnat emphasized that air defense forces responded quite effectively, intercepting enemy targets.

"We shot down ballistic missiles — some didn't reach their targets. The vast majority of the enemy's cruise missiles were destroyed. Regarding drones, 169 lost contact with their targets, and 199 enemy strike UAVs were shot down," Ihnat stressed.

He added that the Defense Forces use all available means to shoot down enemy targets in order to protect civilians. Ihnat emphasized that the effectiveness of Western aircraft in intercepting aerial targets remains high.

When asked whether Russia might launch attacks similar to the one carried out on June 6 in the coming days, he said that it is necessary to be prepared for anything, as Russia continues to violate international law and the conventions of warfare.

"We have to expect anything from Russia daily. That’s why our relevant services — intelligence, for example — may issue warnings about potential threats. Our job is to be ready," he stated.

Massive attack on Ukraine on June 6

During the night, Russia launched a massive strike on Ukrainian cities using missiles and drones. In Kyiv, debris fell in several districts, sparking fires and damaging residential buildings and infrastructure. A metro line and a gas station were also damaged.

Three people were killed in the Ukrainian capital. Seventeen others are being treated in hospitals, while eight are receiving outpatient care.

Ternopil was also targeted, with confirmed strikes on critical infrastructure. As a result, part of the city was left without electricity.

Additionally, Chernihiv came under a combined attack. Residential areas sustained damage, and there were injuries. Poltava and Lviv regions were also targeted.

Commenting on the massive attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Russian forces have not changed their tactics. According to the Ukrainian leader, at least 49 people were injured across eight regions.
