Russia is launching a massive attack on Kyiv with Shahed drones coming in from multiple directions. Wreckage and fires have been reported across different parts of the city.

RBC-Ukraine has gathered everything known so far about the nighttime Shahed drone assault on the capital.

When the attack started

Today at 12:44 a.m. Kyiv time, an air raid alert was issued in the capital. Almost immediately, explosions were heard throughout the city. Local authorities confirmed that air defense systems were active over Kyiv.

“Enemy drones came one after another, approaching the capital from multiple directions and flying over the city’s airspace. Explosions were loud in various parts of Kyiv. Air defense is working,” said Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

At the same time, the Air Force reported that the city was under attack by enemy Shahed drones.

Initial aftermath

As of 1:45 a.m., debris from enemy drones was reported to have fallen in several districts of the capital:

  • Solomianskyi district;
  • Darnytskyi district;
  • Holosiivskyi district.

According to Tkachenko, in the Darnytskyi District, the drone debris landed in multiple open areas.

Holosiivskyi district

In the Holosiivskyi district, drone debris hit a building. The extent of the damage and whether there are any casualties is still being determined. Additionally, a fire broke out at a civilian infrastructure site as a result of the attack. So far, no reports of injuries have been received.

Darnytskyi district

A fire was also reported on the upper floors of a high-rise building in the Darnytskyi district.

Solomianskyi district

In the Solomianskyi district, a fire broke out at the site where drone debris had fallen. Emergency services are on the scene.

Russia is targeting the energy sector

Tkachenko warned that in some neighborhoods on Kyiv’s left bank, there may be emergency power outages.

“The attack is ongoing. I’m in touch with district heads. We will do everything possible to minimize the consequences. Kyiv residents, this attack is ruthless, like everything Russia does. Stay in shelters,” Tkachenko wrote.

This report was prepared using information from the Telegram channels of Kyiv’s city military administration head Timur Tkachenko, Mayor Vitalii Klitschko, and the Ukrainian Air Force.

On the night of June 5-6, Russian forces launched strike drones and missiles against multiple areas across Ukraine.
