New poll shows neck-and-neck presidential race as debate approaches
A new CNN Poll of Polls shows that the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is quite tight, having no clear leader ahead of the debates.
According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, if the election were held today, almost half of the voters would vote for Harris with 49% support and an identical amount would support Trump, showing no significant changes in voter preferences since the last one conducted in early August.
Besides, the respondents were asked about key issues (economy, abortion, personal characteristics) they believe each candidate prevails in, unveiling their major strengths and weaknesses in the presidential contest.
Trump's advantage is on economic policy, with 55% of voters expressing confidence in his decisions, while 45% back Harris on the economy. On the issue of abortion, Harris has the upper hand, with 55% of voters supporting her stance compared to 44% for Trump. Additionally, Harris is viewed more favorably on several personal traits, including being a good role model, where she holds a 19-point advantage, and being seen as more down-to-earth and honest.
With contrasting strengths in policy and character, the upcoming debate is poised to be a critical moment in this neck-and-neck race.
