'Never approved': President of Iran makes cynical statement about Russia's war against Ukraine
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country allegedly never approved of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. He also denied supplying missiles to Russia, The Guardian reports.
The head of the Iranian state, speaking to reporters at the UN General Assembly, reiterated that his country allegedly has not supplied ballistic missiles to Russia since the beginning of his presidency. However, such supplies may have occurred earlier.
"We are willing to sit down with the Europeans and the Americans to have a dialogue and negotiations. We have never approved of Russian aggression against Ukrainian territory," Pezeshkian added.
What preceded
At the beginning of September, Western media reported that Iran had supplied Russia with its short-range ballistic missiles.
Just a few days later, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed such deliveries. According to him, the occupiers had been using Iranian missiles for several weeks by that time.
In this context, Washington decided to impose new sanctions on Iran, including the largest Iranian airline, Iran Air, on the list.
British intelligence specified that the Russians received Fath-360 missiles, which can hit targets within a radius of 120 kilometers.
The intelligence also noted that with such weaponry, Russia could attack military and civilian targets near the front line. At the same time, the enemy would be able to use its own production missiles for longer-range attacks.
