NATO is preparing defensive military measures in response to the incursion of Russian drones into Poland. The goal is to strengthen deterrence on the Alliance's eastern flank, Bloomberg reports.

According to the source, the military response will be coordinated by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Alexus Grynkewich, who is responsible for planning and conducting all Alliance military operations.

The source said that the command is currently assessing the situation and determining what supplies, if any, are needed.

"Looking forward, there’s absolutely more to be done. There are enhancements to weaponry to get to lower-cost engagement, that nations have been experiencing with, will continue to push with all the nations of the alliance," Alexus Grynkewich said on Thursday.

He also said that NATO will draw conclusions and the alliance will learn lessons that need to be improved to counter limited incursions.

In addition to a military response, the source told the publication that there will also be a political response. The first such response was already given on Wednesday, when NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and other allied leaders condemned Russia's reckless behavior.

In addition, the source said that although the number of drones that violated Polish airspace was unprecedented, forcing NATO aircraft to shoot them down in Alliance airspace, it is difficult to determine their intent.

Russian drones in Poland

On the night of September 10, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine using various types of drones and missiles. At the same time, about 20 Russian drones flew into Polish territory.

In this regard, the Polish Air Force and NATO allies deployed F-35 and F-16 fighter jets and Mi-24, M-17, and Black Hawk helicopters to shoot down the drones.

According to the latest data, 16 drone fragments have already been found in Poland. One of them fell on the territory of a military base, but no damage was caused.

In addition, in connection with the Russian attack, NATO invoked Article 4, which will allow allied countries to discuss the situation in the North Atlantic Council.
