NATO foreign ministers to discuss aid for Ukraine in potential talks with Russia, Rutte
During the Alliance summit, the foreign ministers of NATO countries will discuss how Ukraine can enter potential negotiations with Russia from a position of strength. For this, Kyiv needs to receive more military support, Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General, reports.
"We must focus on ensuring that Ukraine, whenever it decides to enter peace talks, does so from a position of strength. For this, it is crucial that Ukraine receives more military assistance," Rutte stated in response to a question about expectations for the NATO summit.
The NATO Secretary General also highlighted that increasing support for Ukraine before potential negotiations is the primary task NATO must accomplish. Afterward, the Ukrainian government will independently decide when it is ready to engage in dialogue with the enemy.
Potential negotiations between Russia and Ukraine
The 47th US President, Donald Trump, has repeatedly expressed his intention to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table when he returns to the White House. Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned the US about the dangers of a hasty conclusion to the war.
The Ukrainian President has also stressed that the location of peace negotiations will not matter if Ukraine finds itself in a weaker position compared to Russia.
According to a CNN report, the US administration may require a ceasefire along the frontline before negotiations between the parties begin.
