The owner of SpaceX initiated the idea of restricting the operation of the Starshield military package for Ukraine. He reportedly presented the proposal to US President Donald Trump, The Telegraph reports.

Four sources familiar with the matter told the outlet that Musk approached Trump with a proposal to impose speed limits on the system, complicating operations for Ukraine's anti-drone defense.

One source told the journalists that the US president had "agreed" with Musk's proposal. Trump effectively gave the Pentagon the green light.

"He (Musk - ed.) tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it. The reality is that they were both in it," the source told The Telegraph.

A senior European official and two well-informed Ukrainian sources also confirmed this version of events.

What Musk and Trump said

Restrictions imposed by the US caused Ukrainian drones to lose their Starshield connection at speeds above 160 km/h.

When the restrictions were first introduced, there were cases in which the permitted speed was even lower.

Commenting on the situation, Elon Musk said that Starshield belonged to the US government and the US military, and that only they could regulate its operating conditions.

Meanwhile, on October 16, Donald Trump said he had not made the decision to restrict Starlink's operation in Ukraine.
