Chelsea and Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk is once again at the center of a scandal in England. Touchline explains what the Ukrainian player was punished for this time.
What Mudryk did wrong
Authorities stopped Mudryk while he was driving his £140,000 BMW with excessively tinted windows and foreign (Ukrainian) license plates. In the UK, using such plates requires a special permit, which Mudryk did not have.
Further checks revealed that he was also driving under an active ban and could not provide insurance, which is another violation.
How the player explained the situation
Recall that in September, Mudryk received a six-month driving ban in the UK.
According to the player, he had to drive because he was urgently heading to training and there was no driver available. However, UK law makes no exceptions for such cases.
Court decision
For these repeated violations, Mudryk received new sanctions from the British court:
- a one-year driving ban
- 60 hours of community service
- a £199 fine
Against the background of a doping scandal
Mudryk has not played for Chelsea since December of last year, when his doping test detected a banned substance—meldonium.
In June, he was officially investigated by the Football Association of the UK for violating anti-doping rules.
Recently, however, rumors have emerged about his return to the pitch. The Ukrainian player, though, will not be playing for Chelsea.
