Most citizens of European Union countries have a negative view of Donald Trump's role in world politics and do not believe he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, according to a survey conducted by consulting firm FGS Global across 23 EU countries, Politico reports.

Attitudes toward Trump in Europe

According to the study, 77% of respondents answered 'no' to the question of whether Trump deserves the Nobel Prize. Only a minority of respondents supported the idea.

The survey was conducted before the latest outbreak of hostile rhetoric from Trump, but even then, the US President was perceived by Europeans as a negative factor.

Pessimism about US influence

About two-thirds of respondents said they were pessimistic about Trump's influence:

  • On the global economy - 69%,
  • On peace and security - 64%,
  • On the situation in their own country - 64%.

The survey also shows that Trump remains unpopular even among supporters of right-wing populist parties in Europe, whom he previously called his allies.

How survey was conducted

FGS Global surveyed 11,714 adults in EU countries from November 10 to 23, 2025.

The interviews were conducted online, and the data were weighted to ensure representativeness by age, gender, income, and region. The margin of error for national samples is ±4.4%.

Trump and Nobel Peace Prize

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that he has succeeded in ending many protracted wars, in particular by facilitating a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas in accordance with the American plan to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Earlier, Cambodia announced its intention to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in resolving the conflict with Thailand. Pakistan made similar statements after resolving disputes with India, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Trump's award only a matter of time.

However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan politician Maria Corina Machado. At the same time, she said she was dedicating the award to US President Donald Trump.

After that, Trump spoke with Machado, after his administration had criticized the Nobel Committee's decision, calling it politically motivated.

On January 16, Machado presented the Nobel Prize medal to Trump, noting his understanding of the situation in Venezuela. This happened after the US conducted an operation in Venezuela and captured Nicolás Maduro.

At the same time, the Nobel Foundation emphasized that the rules do not provide for the possibility of transferring or revoking the prize.
