Trump talks with Venezuelan Nobel winner who dedicated award to him

US President Donald Trump spoke with Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado, who dedicated her award to him. The conversation came after the Trump administration criticized the Nobel Committee's decision, calling it political, according to CNN.
The Nobel Committee announced that the 2025 prize would be awarded to Machado for "promoting democratic rights in Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy."
In a statement, Machado thanked Trump, saying she had spoken with him but declined to share details of the conversation. Trump confirmed the call, describing Machado as "very nice."
"The person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today, called me and said, 'I'm accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it,'" Trump said.
He also joked, "I didn't say, 'Then give it to me,' though I think she might have. She was very nice."
Trump said he had helped Machado along her path.
"They need a lot of help in Venezuela; it's a basic disaster. So, and you could also say it was given out for '24 and I was running for office in '24," he added.
Shortly after the Nobel announcement, the Trump administration reacted negatively to the committee’s decision, emphasizing its political aspect.
This year, Trump repeatedly highlighted that he ended seven wars that had lasted decades. Recently, he reportedly pushed Hamas toward a peace agreement with Israel under the US plan to end the war in Gaza.
Despite this, the Norwegian Nobel Committee chose to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado, who dedicated the prize to US President Donald Trump.
