Moscow residents may be left without mobile internet and SMS for five days. Officially, for "security" during the May 9 parade, Russian media reports.

What was said in the message

Mobile operators have already sent customers warnings about communication restrictions from May 5 to May 9. The text of the message reads:

"To ensure security measures in Moscow, temporary restrictions on mobile internet and SMS services are possible during the preparation and holding of festive events from May 5 to May 9," the message says.

Operators recommended using Wi-Fi for internet access and using the VoLTE function in smartphone settings for voice calls.

Where and when shutdowns will occur

The strictest restrictions are expected on May 5, 7, and 9. The restrictions may affect:

  • All mobile internet;

  • Sending SMS;

  • Even so-called whitelists — websites that are usually allowed.

The shutdown will affect not only the city center but all of Moscow within the Moscow Ring Road.

Ahead of the May 9 parade, the Kremlin began speaking about a temporary ceasefire. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin has not yet decided on which days the announced ceasefire will apply, and no decision has been made.

As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained Moscow's real intention.

In his opinion, the Kremlin wants to use a short ceasefire solely to protect its military parade from possible Ukrainian strikes, and after it ends, to resume attacks.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine will not allow this to become a tactical deception.
