The Moscow oil refinery will remain shut down at least until 2027 after suffering severe damage in a Ukrainian drone strike, Reuters reports.

Two industry sources told the agency that the shutdown of this refinery is complicating Russia's efforts to combat fuel shortages.

"It will take at least half a year to repair," one of the sources emphasized.

Reuters notes that Gazprom Neft, which owns the Moscow refinery, did not respond to a request for comment.

Drones attacked Moscow during the night of June 18 and into the morning. One of the key targets of the strike was the Moscow oil refinery in the Kapotnya district.

Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the Defense Forces had struck the Moscow refinery. He stressed that such strikes are intended to demonstrate to Russia the need to end the war.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the enterprise completely halted operations as a result of the attack. The military stated that the refinery stopped processing oil due to significant damage to four large storage tanks and technological equipment.

At the same time, to strengthen protection of the refinery against possible new strikes, the Russian military deployed several Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun systems around the Moscow refinery.
