During Russia’s massive attack on May 13-14, more than 160 drones were detected over the South Ukraine, Rivne, and Chornobyl nuclear power plants, according to the IAEA.

"IAEA has been informed of a major increase in drone activity near Ukrainian NPP sites this week," the statement says.

The agency noted that no direct impact on nuclear safety at the facilities had been reported.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed deep concern and stressed the need for full compliance with the fundamental principles of nuclear safety and security during the conflict.

Massive attack on Ukraine

On May 13-14, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine using kamikaze drones and various types of missiles. In total, the enemy used 1,567 drones and 56 missiles. The interception rate reached 94% for drones and 73% for missiles.

Overnight, Russian forces launched 56 missiles and 675 drones at Ukraine. Damage was reported in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as in several other regions of the country.

As of now, 12 people have been confirmed killed in the capital, while 57 others were injured. At least 20 people are still considered missing.

According to Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat, the attack was one of the largest during the entire full-scale war. He noted that Russia used its entire arsenal of available aerial attack weapons.

Later, Russia’s Defense Ministry came up with a cynical justification for the prolonged combined attack on Ukraine, claiming it had carried out a so-called "retaliation strike."

More details on the consequences of the overnight massive attack on Ukraine are available in RBC-Ukraine’s report.
