Merz speaks out on possible Taurus missile supply to Ukraine

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is not ruling out the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, saying such a step is possible, Welt reports, citing Merz.
"Of course, it's within the realm of possibility," Merz said during the heute journal program when asked about the potential Taurus supply.
German Chancellor also noted that several months of training would be required for Ukrainian soldiers to operate the missiles.
Germany's support for Ukraine
Germany remains one of the leading providers of military aid to Ukraine amid the ongoing full-scale war. Berlin has supplied tanks, artillery, ammunition, air defense systems, including some of the latest surface-to-air missile systems and missiles for them.
However, Germany has not yet made a final decision on whether to deliver the Taurus missiles to Kyiv. Former Chancellor Olaf Scholz had opposed the idea, arguing it could lead to escalation.
Merz, for his part, has stated that he is not against supplying the missiles to Ukraine, though the debate is still ongoing. At the same time, the Chancellor's office has said that Germany will no longer comment publicly on plans regarding potential Taurus deliveries.
