German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, at the Coalition of the Willing meeting on September 4, will propose Geneva as the venue for negotiations on a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, Sky News reports.

"Geneva would be a suitable venue for a ceasefire agreement. Security guarantees will play a role," Merz said during a joint press conference with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter.

The German chancellor added that he will participate in the Coalition of the Willing meeting remotely.

Meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin

Previously, after negotiations in Alaska and at the White House, US President Donald Trump stated that he would like Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy within "two to three" weeks.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Putin had expressed willingness for such a summit. However, Russia continues to delay the meeting and set conditions.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that such talks "require thorough preparation."

Zelenskyy, in turn, stressed that it is Russia that is blocking the holding of this meeting.

Meanwhile, Trump warned that Russia would face serious consequences if Putin refuses to meet with Zelenskyy.
