Lukashenko plans visit to China
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko plans to visit China later this month to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation.
The Center for Countering Disinformation noted that Lukashenko’s visit to China is scheduled ahead of the election in Belarus on January 26. This will be his third trip to China in the past three years.
According to the Center, Lukashenko seeks to strengthen Belarus-China relations to support his regime and improve his negotiating position with the Kremlin, as Belarus faces international isolation, pressure due to the presence of Russian troops, financial obligations on loans, and dependence on energy resources.
"Minsk aims to boost joint Belarus-China projects, such as the Vyaliki Kamen industrial cluster, cooperation in pharmaceuticals, engineering, and the military-industrial complex," the Center stated.
Additionally, Belarus hopes China can act as a mediator in unblocking transport routes to the European Union.
Last week, it was revealed that Lukashenko registered as a candidate for the presidential election.
Meanwhile, Russia has assured Lukashenko it is prepared to send its security forces to Belarus in the event of protests during the election.
