Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda expressed skepticism about the prospects of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. He believes that such a step would lead to an unjust peace.

Nausėda believes that Europe does not support Ukraine enough to allow it to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia.

“Unfortunately, we are not supporting enough. I have said many times that there are many promises, but not so many promises that we can fulfill,” the Lithuanian president said.

In his opinion, Russia does not show a desire to negotiate, going on the offensive at the front.

“There are rumors about possible peace talks, and I think this is premature because now Russia is on the offensive, Russia is moving forward, Russia feels like the stronger party in all possible negotiations, and this will lead to an unfair and unsustainable peace,” Nausėda said.

Talks about Ukraine and Russia's negotiations

Ukraine and Russia are not currently engaged in peace talks. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes that returning to the negotiating table is possible only after Ukraine's position is strengthened.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine does not reject the diplomatic path to end the war, but peace must be established on the terms of Ukrainians.

According to the President, Ukraine's security will be guaranteed by joining NATO. Therefore, Ukraine is working on receiving an invitation to join. This is one of the points of Ukraine's victory plan.
