Lithuania to allocate €20 million for ammunition purchases for Ukraine

Lithuania plans to allocate an additional 20 million euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine, as the situation on the front lines "could become very difficult" during the summer, states Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė ahead of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in the Ramstein format in Brussels, according to LRT.
"It could be very difficult this summer (on the front in Ukraine – ed.), so support should be provided sooner rather than later. Lithuania intends to allocate an additional 20 million euros for the purchase of ammunition, as this is one of the things Ukraine needs the most right now," Šakalienė stated.
The outlet reminded that in June last year, the National Defense Council decided to allocate at least 0.25% of the country's GDP annually for military aid to Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the war, Lithuania has provided Ukraine with military assistance worth around 800 million euros. The total volume of Lithuania's long-term aid to Ukraine has exceeded 1.5 billion euros.
Lithuania’s aid to Ukraine
In March, we reported that Lithuania continues to invest in Ukraine’s defense industry and plans to purchase weaponry for the Armed Forces of Ukraine worth at least 20 million euros.
In mid-January, Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė announced that Ukraine would receive thousands of drones from Lithuania, worth 5 million euros.
Earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda also called for providing Ukraine with modern weaponry and long-range strike capabilities.
