The US has realized that Russia is only stalling with its "negotiations" in order to continue its war against Ukraine. That is why Moscow has suddenly started proposing a summit in Budapest, according to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.
"Lavrov (Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov - ed.) and Peskov (Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov - ed.) are signaling to the West a request for Trump to return to talks with Putin (Russian President Vladimir Putin - ed.) about peace. The Russians became concerned when the US realized that they were simply stalling," he noted.
What Lavrov and Peskov said
Yesterday, November 13, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke about Russia being "ready" for a meeting between dictator Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Budapest.
Lavrov clarified that such a meeting could take place if it is based on the “carefully worked-out results” of the previous summit in Alaska. He did not specify what exactly he meant by this.
Lavrov added that no specific date has yet been set for the Putin-Trump meeting.
Meanwhile, Peskov on November 13 expressed hope that Trump is ready to help resolve the "problem" with Ukraine through diplomatic means.
He noted that Russia supposedly wants to develop cooperation with the US, particularly in the field of trade.
Trump and Putin had agreed to a Budapest meeting back in October during a phone call.
However, Trump later decided to cancel the meeting because Russia does not want to stop its actions in Ukraine.
