In Russia, there are reportedly hopes that US President Donald Trump will help them end the war against Ukraine through "diplomacy," Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov made this statement in a comment to CNN.

Peskov said that Russia "wants to improve relations with the US, open new opportunities for trade and economic cooperation," and to move quickly on this issue.

The Kremlin press secretary complained that Russia and the US are "losing time, money, and profit" while very bright prospects lie ahead.

"Of course, we sincerely hope that President Trump is still willing to contribute political and diplomatic settlement of Ukraine problem," he added.

Russia does not want to end the war

Earlier this spring, the US proposed that Ukraine and Russia establish a ceasefire without any additional conditions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supported this initiative, while Russian President Vladimir Putin began inventing excuses for why it would be disadvantageous for Russia and started issuing additional demands.

In Moscow, officials claimed that a ceasefire would supposedly be "beneficial" to Ukraine, as it would "allow them to carry out mobilization" and "rearm."

Russia also continues to refuse President Zelenskyy’s proposal for a leaders-level meeting.

Instead, the Kremlin has sent low-level delegations to negotiate with Ukraine — delegations that do not have the authority to make decisions on ending the war.

Recently, Trump himself acknowledged that Russia is not yet willing to end the war, which led him to cancel a planned meeting with Putin in Budapest.
