“Two people were killed in the capital. Five people were injured. Medical personnel provided on-site assistance to three of them, and two were hospitalized,” Klitschko reported.
Massive Russian attack on Kyiv
On the night of January 9, Russia is attacking all of Ukraine with strike drones and missiles, as previously warned by the media and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Russia’s goal is to leave Ukrainians without electricity, heat, and water during bad weather and freezing temperatures.
The capital was not spared - the mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klitschko, initially reported a drone attack on the city. As a result, the Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Pecherskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts were affected.
Klitschko reported multiple strikes on buildings and fires that broke out afterward, while Telegram channels shared footage of the hits. People are being evacuated from buildings en masse. The threat of Shahed drone strikes continues.
In addition to drones, the capital was likely targeted by ballistic missiles, as loud explosions were heard. The Air Force issued warnings about Kalibr missiles launched by Russia from the Black Sea.
Last night, Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russian occupiers could carry out another massive strike across Ukraine during the night. For this reason, it is crucial for Ukrainians not to ignore air raid alerts and to head to shelters.
