Kyiv and Washington discuss purchase of Ukrainian drones: Ukrainian top security official reveals details

The Ukrainian delegation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, together with the Ministry of Defense, visited the United States. The parties discussed the planned purchase of Ukrainian drones and security cooperation, stated the Council's Secretary, Rustem Umerov.
According to Umerov, the key issue discussed at the meeting was the implementation of the presidential initiative, Drone Deal.
"The main goal of the Ukrainian team's visit was technical negotiations to prepare for the signing of an agreement on the purchase of Ukrainian drones. Its implementation also provides for the possibility of establishing joint Ukrainian-American production facilities," wrote the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
According to him, the Ukrainian delegation held meetings with representatives of the Pentagon, Congress, and the US military regarding the deepening of cooperation and the modernization of drone platforms.
Ukraine presented its experience in the field of aerial, maritime, and ground unmanned systems, which aroused great interest among the allies.
The parties also separately discussed the PURL mechanism, which provides for the purchase of US weapons and ammunition funded by the EU. In particular, the discussion focused on plans for arms supplies in 2026.
Umerov added that Ukraine is a global leader in drone technologies, and cooperation with partners in this field strengthens overall security.
On September 23, it became known that the US and Ukraine held negotiations on the procurement of American weapons and joint drone programs. Rustem Umerov reported this.
Six NATO countries have already funded four packages of defense support for Ukraine, totaling more than $ 2 billion, under the PURL initiative.
