According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection, following Russia's massive nighttime attack on June 17, a localized decline in air quality was recorded in Kyiv, particularly in the areas affected by fires.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration's Department of Environmental Protection, the situation on the right bank of the capital remains stable—pollution levels are low, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) ranging between 23 and 33. Radiation levels are also within the normal range.

On the left bank, especially in the Darnytskyi district, pollution levels are higher—the AQI reached 80. This is due to an increased concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) following the shelling and resulting fires.

According to Kyiv Digital, most city areas still report satisfactory air quality indicators. However, residents are advised to exercise caution, especially in districts where pollution levels are elevated.

Until the situation stabilizes, Kyiv residents are advised to:

  • Limit time spent outdoors when possible
  • Avoid ventilating indoor spaces
  • Stay hydrated
  • Use an air purifier if available

The Ministry of Environmental Protection emphasized that these precautions are especially important for people with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.

Attack on Kyiv on June 17

Russia launched another massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv. The capital was first targeted by Shahed drones in the evening, and missile strikes followed during the night. One of the strikes completely destroyed the entrance section of a nine-story residential building in the Solomianskyi district.

The Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) reported 14 confirmed deaths in the morning. However, the exact number of victims will only be known after all the rubble is cleared and rescue efforts are completed.

Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klychko, also reported damage to another residential high-rise in the Solomianskyi district.

Previously, we provided a detailed report from the capital, which endured this massive Russian assault.

During the night, Ukraine's air defense forces neutralized 428 of the 472 drones and missiles launched nationwide. Confirmed enemy strikes occurred at 10 locations, with debris falling in 34 different sites.
