The Kremlin has stated that Russia will not stop military operations in Ukraine, as proposed by US President Donald Trump, according to a statement from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov in Russian media.

According to Peskov, Russia’s position on the US president’s peace plan — which calls for both Russian and Ukrainian forces to halt along the current front line to begin negotiations — remains unchanged.

He also said that preparatory work to establish the necessary conditions for a Russia–US summit in Budapest will begin shortly.

However, Peskov did not provide details about the potential meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest.

"At the moment, there are no details regarding the Russia–US summit in Budapest; much 'homework' still needs to be done through the foreign ministries," Peskov stated.

Separately, the Kremlin press secretary said that Moscow is monitoring US statements regarding potential supplies of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine and is maintaining expert-level contacts with Washington to exchange positions.

Trump's recent proposals

After meeting with Zelenskyy, the US leader published a post calling on Ukraine and Russia to stop at their current positions along the front line.

There were reports that Trump allegedly urged Zelenskyy to accept Putin's conditions, warning that Russia would "destroy" him otherwise. According to the reports, the US president allegedly urged Ukraine to hand over the entire Donetsk region, repeating points Putin had made in a private conversation.

Trump later denied these claims, stating that he had not discussed transferring Donbas to Russia with Zelenskyy and reaffirmed that the US position is for both sides to remain along the current front line.

It is also known that the US leader intends to meet with Putin in Budapest to negotiate an end to the war.
