Preparations are currently underway for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov in an interview with Le Point.

When asked about the conditions for a Trump-Putin meeting, Peskov said, "The meeting must be productive. Both Trump and Putin want results. That’s why preparatory work is being done."

He emphasized that US-Russia relations are a separate issue, but also claimed that "resolving the conflict with Ukraine is impossible without restoring normal relations between Washington and Moscow."

Peskov also noted that Trump has never set a deadline for a peace deal.

"Trump has never named a date. And we don’t believe a deadline would be appropriate, because Putin supports a ceasefire," Peskov added.

Rumors about Trump’s visit to Moscow

In late February, Le Point reported that Donald Trump might visit Moscow on May 9 for a meeting with Vladimir Putin. The media speculated that Trump aimed to "celebrate a shared victory" in the context of negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Trump later responded to the rumors, stating that he would not go to Moscow on May 9.

Recently, the Kremlin said that the two countries had not discussed the possibility of US President Donald Trump's visit to the May 9 parade in Moscow.
