The trip of Britain's King Charles III to the US will go ahead as planned, despite the shooting that occurred on Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, according to The Hill.
"Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the State Visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said.
He added that the King and Queen express their huge gratitude to everyone who worked promptly to keep the visit plan unchanged.
At the beginning of April, the British monarchy published the official route for Charles and Queen Camilla's upcoming trip to the US earlier this month. The couple plans to spend 6 days in America, starting on Monday with a visit to Washington, then heading to New York and Virginia.
A source in the British government also told The Hill that the royal family's plans to visit the US are under review by security services, but for now they remain unchanged.
The shooting that occurred at US President Donald Trump's dinner with journalists on Saturday, which was canceled after senior officials were evacuated, raised questions about security ahead of the royal family's visit.
By the way, Donald Trump had already commented on the upcoming visit the day before.
"First of all, King Charles is coming. And he’s a great guy. And we look forward to it. He’s really a fantastic person and a tremendous representative," he said.
He added that the King and Queen will visit the US amid heightened tensions between the countries. In particular, in recent weeks, Trump has intensified criticism of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not supporting the US and Israeli operation against Iran, as well as for Britain's reluctance to help Washington control the Strait of Hormuz.
Royal visit to the US
In early March, amid the conflict between Britain and the US (over Iran), calls were made in London to cancel King Charles III's visit to Washington.
We also reported that Donald Trump is preparing a grand state dinner in honor of the visit of the British King and Queen to the White House. The ceremonial banquet is scheduled for April 28, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of US independence.
