In the UK, there are calls to cancel King Charles III's visit to the US due to Trump's war, according to Sky News.
Over the past few days, relations between London and Washington have reached a brink of the deepest crisis in decades.
That is precisely why the British Parliament is urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to cancel the King's state visit to the US immediately. The reason is public insults from US President Donald Trump and the illegal war against Iran.
It is noted that Charles III's trip is planned for April 2026 and was intended to be a symbol of a strong alliance, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of US independence.
However, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey is convinced that, under current conditions, this visit would become a diplomatic gift to Trump.
"A state visit from our King would be seen as yet another huge diplomatic coup for President Trump, so it should not be given to someone who repeatedly insults and damages our country," Davey stated.
The opposition emphasizes that while British families are suffering from energy price hikes due to the war in the Middle East, a lavish state visit is inappropriate. Ed Davey directly calls the US military campaign illegal and believes the monarch should not legitimize Washington's actions with his presence.
History of the сonflict
The tension flared after Starmer's government banned the US from using British bases for the first wave of attacks on Iran. Trump's reaction was immediate and harsh:
Indeed, the US President publicly mocked the British Prime Minister, stating that he was no Winston Churchill.
In addition, Trump demonstratively rejected assistance from a British aircraft carrier, declaring it was no longer needed, despite London subsequently permitting defensive operations from its bases.
Еhe leaders held a 20-minute phone call the day before to smooth things over, but the crisis has not subsided. Keir Starmer's government is forced to balance between preserving the special relationshiз with the ally and protecting its own dignity amid blatant attacks from the White House.
