US Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, was en route to Poland on the night of September 10, when the Russian drone attack on the country occurred, CNN reports.

One of the outlet’s sources confirmed that Kellogg’s trip to Poland was on behalf of US President Donald Trump. From there, he planned to travel to Ukraine.

"Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine was en route to Poland when the Russian drone incursion occurred, according to a source familiar with his travel. He is expected to continue traveling on to Ukraine in the coming days," the outlet said.

It was also noted that the Russian drones’ intrusion into Polish airspace marked the first targeted attack by Russia on a NATO country since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Russian drone attack on Poland

On the night of September 10, Russia launched strike drones over Polish territory for the first time. At least 19 drones entered the country. So far, fragments of Russian drones have been found in 11 Polish settlements.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called the alliance’s response to the incident in Poland "very successful," emphasizing that the past night demonstrated NATO’s readiness to defend every inch of its territory, including its airspace.

In response to NATO statements, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the drones that attacked Poland do not exceed a range of 700 kilometers and that no targets on Polish territory were intended. The Kremlin declined to comment further. Investigations of the wreckage revealed that the drones were equipped with additional fuel tanks, contradicting Russia’s claims.
