The European Union has responded to new threats from Moscow against the Baltic states, stating that the Kremlin is trying to intimidate Ukraine’s allies amid battlefield failures, according to a post by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on X.

She called claims that the Baltic states allegedly allow Ukraine to use their airspace for attacks "utter nonsense." According to Kallas, Moscow is well aware that these statements do not correspond to reality.

"Moscow’s threats against the Baltic States are not a sign of strength, but of weakness," the EU foreign policy chief emphasized.

She also stated that Russia is failing on the battlefield in Ukraine and is attempting to pressure Kyiv’s allies through intimidation.

In Kallas’ view, the Kremlin aims to force European countries to reduce their support for Ukraine.

However, the EU is calling for the opposite approach.

"The right response is to do the opposite: increase our support to Ukraine and boost Europe’s defences even further," Kallas concluded.

Russia’s threats against the Baltic states

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service previously claimed that Ukraine was allegedly preparing attacks on Russian territory using the airspace of Latvia. Both Riga and Kyiv called these accusations fake and part of Russian disinformation.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, and Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi emphasized that Ukraine does not use Latvian territory or airspace to strike Russia.

However, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, repeated these claims at a UN Security Council meeting, spreading allegations about planned Ukrainian drone attacks from Baltic territory.

In response, US Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Tammy Bruce said that Washington fully meets its obligations to NATO allies and will not tolerate threats against Alliance member states.
